Very often the application in hand will have a specification for a metal foot pedal. This is often why this type of foot pedal is selected. 

Metal foot pedals are often heavy. For a lightweight low-cost alternative, we would recommend either our 6227 or 6256 heavy-duty footswitches. The latter is constructed of plastic but, when subjected to our drop test we found it to provide greater protection than some competitor metal footswitches. See the drop test here.
