Push Button Switch Function

Push button switches are part of our product range here at Herga but what is the function of a push button switch?

The main function of a push button switch is to switch something either on or off, however, there are different types of push button switches and each different type has a different function.

Types of Push Button Switches and Their Functions

Momentary Push Button Switch Function - a momentary switch requires continuous compression to keep contact within the circuit and keep the device “on”. Momentary push button switches can be either “push to make” which switches the device on, or “push to break” which switches the device off.

Latching Push Button Switch Function - a latching switch does not require continuous compression, the user will have to press the switch once and the device will remain on/off until it is pressed again.

Electric Push Button Switch Function - electric push buttons are used with electric circuits, they contain the electronics required to either make or break circuits, depending on the requirements of the application. They are used to switch devices on and off, for example light switches.

Pneumatic Push Button Switch Function - Pneumatic switches are used in conjunction with an air switch. Instead of using electronics to function they operate using a sip or puff of air. Their main function is to ensure the user does not come into contact with electricity. Because they use air to function and contain no electrics they are safe for use in wet environments. This makes pneumatic push button switches the ideal choice for applications such as shower systems and jacuzzi controls.
