Herga footswitches control high frequency surgical procedure devices

Herga footswitches control high frequency surgical procedure devices

Herga Technology has introduced a 2-pedal footswitch specifically designed to control high-frequency surgery equipment. Complying to UL / IEC 60601-1 medical standards, the 6226-0087 footswitch exemplifies Herga’s recently introduced modular base system for multi-pedal footswitches and accessories. The assembly integrates two medical grade 6226 series footswitches in an ergonomic assembly complete with a steel divider for safe operation and steel carrying handle.

Primarily aimed at minimally invasive laparoscopic or endoscopic procedures the footswitch controls the instrument’s high frequency current and thus the functions for cutting (left) and contact coagulation for haemostasis (right).  Labelled CUT and COAG, and finished in yellow and blue respectively according to international medical standards, both pedals have a switching capacity to 1.75 A / 24 VDC with normally open contacts. The complete assembly is sealed to IPX7 and a 3 metre cable with free wire ends exits from the modular base unit.

The new electrosurgical footswitch will offer new and improved opportunities in medical technology and is intended to create optimal conditions for surgical intervention as a technical improvement.

Herga’s modular base system comprises up to six single modular base units, each capable of supporting a footswitch and two bellows switches – potentially providing as many as twelve foot-operated switching tasks. It may be equally applied to low voltage DC and AC switching in medical equipment or industrial machinery applications with 6225, 6226, 6227 & 6228 series footswitches and 6241 and 6244 bellows switches. Most types of momentary switch configurations are available and higher voltages are available on request as well as various switch colours and custom livery. A wide range of modular accessories include tubular steel carrying handles and open guards or pressed steel closed guards. Each footswitch may be separated with a raised divider built into the joining strip, and steel base plates are available for added durability. Several standard configurations are available and with the modular system customisation is made straightforward and cost effective.

Herga Technology’s comprehensive product range covers standard and customised single- or multi-pedal switches in ergonomic designs that span electrical/electronic, pneumatic, Bluetooth® and USB switching technologies. With a strong emphasis on the extremely high standards and competitive costs required to maintain its market leading position, Herga’s product range is widely specified for switching and sensing tasks in medical device equipment, industrial equipment, business and domestic machines, and many other demanding footswitch and hand control applications.
